Salut! I know, I know, it has been awhile since I last updated. Things are quite busy here and when I do have a bunch of time to do something, it is hard to just sit down and write. But, all is well because I am writing now. Above is a little bit of a paragraph I wrote in French a week or two ago (first paragraph written ever mind you, woohoo) so I thought I’d paste it on here.
I don’t even know where to start parce que (because) so much has happened since I last wrote. Let’s see...
I cut Dwight’s hair ... and, it was successful! (wow)
Erin and Geoff came to visit over the week ... so much FUN! it was great! We went to QC city Saturday, spent the night at my roommates house, and then came back Sunday to just hang out. It was so great having a “piece of home” in Sherbrooke! props to Er and Geoff!
I read the Bible (in French) for 60 minutes every week with one of the francophones ici. Vanessa and I are already seeing a difference in my reading compared to just a fews weeks ago. “By golly, I think she is getting it.” (By the grace of God, slowly but surely.)
My “job” on campus is to work in the library for about 15 minutes everyday. Never thought I would be a librarian. Peut-etre (perhaps) I should get “librarian glasses” ... ?
For the last few weeks my class has had a written test of 100 or less words on Wednesday. On Thursday we have had a oral dialogue that was memorized. And then on Friday, we have had a memory verse to say (in French, of corse). Same for this week, mais (but) next week looks quite different:
This Friday afternoon we (some of the language school studies along with all the Bible school students) leave for the weekend to do a ministry outing in another town. We get back late Sunday night. We have no school monday but on Tuesday I have an oral exam that is about 45 minutes long (ah!). No school Wednesday but a written exam that is about 2 hours long on Thursday. Friday no school, Saturday Kathleen’s (my teacher) wedding, and then the next week is our midterm break! Craziness coming for riz.
Check out this quote from “Knowing God” by J.I. Packer that is about a “zealous man” ....
“.... He only sees one thing, he cares for one thing, he lives for one thing, he is swallowed up in one thing; and that one thing is to please God. Whether he lives, or whether he dies - whether he has health, or whether he has sickness - whether he is rich, or whether he is poor - whether he pleases man, or whether he gives offense - whether he is thought wise, or whether he is thought foolish - whether he gets blame, or whether he gets praise - whether he gets honor, or whether he gets shame - for all this the zealous man cares nothing at all. He burns for one thing; and that one things is to please God, and to advance God’s glory. If he is consumed in the very burning, he cares not for it - he is content. He feels that, like a lamp, he is made to burn; and if consumed in burning, he has but done the work for which God appointed him....”
May we be zealous for Jesus!!!
Praying for you guys, love you guys...
